AUNTIE FLO
For our first venture at King’s, we were absolutely thrilled to invite revered Producer and DJ, Auntie Flo.
Auntie Flo's sound fuses contemporary club culture with world influences, alongside other producers such Daphni, Four Tet, Romare and Sinkane. Expect to hear sounds spanning the globe (particularly sounds from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East), paired with hints of tribal house and driving techno, perfect for the modern dancefloor.
Since starting his club night, Highlife in Glasgow over ten years ago, Auntie Flo has since gone on to win the Scottish Album of the Year award (past winners include Mogwai and Young Fathers). With his release 'Radio Highlife' released on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Records. Alongside this, he has produced numerous Boiler Rooms and put out releases on iconic labels such as Kompakt, Philomena, HIGHLIFE and Huntleys + Palmers (Auntie Flo’s ‘Goan Highlife’ was the first ever release the label put out).
Another highpoint in the man’s stacked discography was his LP ‘Theory of Flo’ (co-produced by Esa), which received glowing reviews all across the board. The Guardian labelled it ‘A heady blend of world music and house’ and Resident Advisor described it as ‘an album that seamlessly blends clear-eyed club music with rich international sounds, while deftly navigating the tricky task of not watering down either.’
KORNEL KOVACS
For our second venture at King's we invited swedish Dj and producer Kornel Kovacs.
Kornel Kovacs creates breezy, party-ready club music and has quickly established himself as one of the most in-demand selectors in Europe. Alongside Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist, Kovacs forms 1/3 of Studio Barnhus: A label renowned for releasing playful house music that offers 'a blob of colour splashed right onto the grey scales of modern dance music.'
Expect house, techno, pop, slow jams and lots of strange, bouncy grooves in between.
ROBAG WRHUME
For our fifth birthday, we invited the one and only Robag Wruhme.
Beginning his career as one half of the duo The Wighnomy Brothers, Wruhme produced countless tracks throughout the 90’s and early 00’s that are now considered club classics.
Then DJ Koze called, and there began a long-lasting friendship between the pair. Robag releases a swathe of singles on Koze’s Pampa Records, and two albums that are regarded as landmarks in the genre: 2011’s magnum Opus ‘Thora Vukk’ and 2019’s ‘Venq Tolep’ described as ‘Some of the prettiest, silkiest, and most poignant minimal electronic music ever" (Philip Sherburne, Pitchfork)’
Alongside this, Wruhme has established himself as one of the most talented remixers in the business, become a regular on Kompakt Records and has conjured up some of our favourite ever mixes. Notably, his CD Wuppdeckmischmampflow is extra special.
