New 12" from the "Fonk" french master Dabeull, with a lot of vintage synths, 80's sounds and hairy moustache. Vintage Funk from today.
For one who believes that music is sharing, this is the time of first paychecks as a DJ who makes people dance in bars. A creed still valid today “I love it, it’s part of me”.
One day, his godfather, a composer, lends him a portable sequencer for a day. Dabeull’s life is changed forever.
Though he respects Nile Rodgers and Prince, they do not sit in his pantheon alongside The Bar-Kays and Kleeer. In the early 00’s, Funk and disco are not popular musical genres, and it is with his Electro Clash first group, Kill Da Hype, that the man, who was by then already called Dabeull, drew attention during the hay days of Myspace.
New groups, new encounters (Vitalic), new sound (a techno escapade), new desires, the man named Dabeull is still in motion.
Follows a period of production for other artists such as “In Da Club” and mostly « Holybrune » whose album he practically fully composed. He recently added to his production credits work for Disiz, and most importantly three tracks for Cerrone’s last album, one of which featuring Aloe Blacc.
Dabeull is fueled by love and new meetings, notably with Cézaire, head of Roche Musique (FKJ, Kartell, Darius), which was defining and which led him back “In Da Studio”, title of the compilation album and of its corresponding web series. The album cover features a character all dressed in white, much like a laughing Dr. Strangelove, with a prominent moustache, surrounded by his vintage machines that create the Dabeull sound. « My goal is to make music the way it was made back in the days – late 70s, early 80s – I wish they would have kept making it that way so I am doing it for them” he says with a smile. All the music he loves comes from then, it comes from the synths.
If he is still doing DJ sets, Dabeull is thinking about live shows where the emotion he is seeking will be much stronger. His Funk music, which he wants more Pop, involves vocals. Using his own voice is the next challenge.
The thirty-something Parisian is growing for and around music that takes a bite out of life’s simple and funky joys. Ultimately, the natural double lobe (pronounced Dabeull) on Dabeull’s right ear may just be the most commonplace detail in this happy man!
