Tinariwen - Hoggar

Tinariwen continue to evolve on 'Hoggar', drawing closer to home by collaborating with a younger generation of Tuareg musicians to shape a record driven by undulating grooves and shared nomadic heritage. The album reflects the group’s role as elders within their community, grounded in collective music-making while opening space for new voices to emerge.

Fierce advocates for Tuareg culture across the desert borderlands of Mali and Algeria, Tinariwen’s blues-inflected, guitar-led sound has earned global recognition over two decades. Their music balances Tamasheq-language political expression with hypnotic rhythms and soaring melodies, rooted in tradition yet open to exchange.

Where earlier releases saw the group working with outside producers and collaborators, Hoggar turns inward, returning to the spirit of their early songwriting: acoustic guitars, communal singing, and the shared energy of music made around the campfire. Guest appearances from José González and Sulafa Elyas add subtle new textures without diluting the album’s core identity.

By passing the torch to younger musicians while reaffirming their own foundations, Tinariwen present Hoggar as both a reaffirmation of Tuareg musical tradition and a statement of continuity, resilience, and quiet defiance.
