Tomede Ehue & L'International Orchestre Poly-Rythmo 'Bella Bello' (Canopy)

The third release from Canopy features the title track from a tough to catch Afro funk 7” originally released on private press in Benin in the early 80s.

Vocalist Tomede Ehue is backed by the Beninois powerhouse, the truly almighty “TP Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou”. Led by band leader Clement Melomé, Poly-Rythmo charge headfirst into a powerful and enchanting dance-floor focused afro funk track.

Fringed with cosmic noise effects, spooky organs and punctuated by searing horn arrangements, the insistent disco beat and dark throbbing bass from Gustave Bentho establish a solid foundation from which Tomede’s haunting vocals lift with an intangible quality.

bosq & Sam Redmore are enlisted to imbue the sonic palette with their refined taste and technical savvy.

These tracks strike a balance between moody afro funk and more punchy electronic aesthetics, while maintaining the subtleties of the original composition and performance.
